The article makes a thorough research on the principle of in-situ rock strength measurement with contact detection method in small borehole by intergrative means of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. The universal phenomenon, destroying way and acting mechanism of the rock destroyed by the probe are analysed, and the effect caused by lateral rock pressure and water in the testing process is found; the effect caused by weakness plane in the probe destroying rock with different lithologic characters on the testing result is simulated. Through the rock mass test, the linear relationship between critical load of the probe and its corresponding rock compressive strength is regressed. The achievement of research has been used in the geological mechanics test in Lu'an, Xinwen Coal Mines and so on, a lots of valuable basic data are gotten. Reliable basic paramenters are provided for roadway layout and support design.
