Abstract/Summary:
Magnesium alloy is the lightest of all the commonly used metal structural materials at present. It also has other desirable features including light weight , high strength/weight ratio, high stiffness/weight ratio, high damping properties, good machinability and castability, which leads to a growing interest in magnesium and its alloys, especially in automotive, communication and aircraft industries. Among the alloys used, the most widely used magnesium alloys are AZ91 alloy, which have good room temperature mechanical properties and low cost. However, the vehicle wheel as a kind of weight reducing material should have both high strength and high toughness depending on its working environment. AZ91 magnesium alloy has high strength, but its toughness needs to be improved. In addition, AZ91 magnesium alloy has not achieved its full properties as a structural materials for those critical applications requiring elevated temperature performance such as transmission parts of automotive, because AZ91 magnesium alloy...
