An amorphous silica with distinct bimodal pore structure containing both macropores and mesopores was developed in high performance of liquid chromatography (HPLC). The porous volume of silica gel is higher than micropaticulate column, and the pore rate of silica gel is more than 80%. Silica with bimodal pores could be applied in catalyst because of its feature such as high flow-rate, high pressure and high performance. Pathways provided by macropores for rapid molecular transportation is the most important feature.First, the bimodal porous silica gel was prepared by the sol-gel process with tetramethoxysilane as silica source; poly(ethylene oxide) as phase separation; acetic acid as catalyst. The samples were characterized by SEM, BET and strength test. The optimal experiment conditions are found. Water bath temperature is 40°C; TMOS/PEG ratio is 5.71;...
