| As the lightest metal structure materials, magnesium alloy has low density, high specific strength and specific stiffness, good damping characteristic, excellent machineability and castability, etc. So more and more magnesium alloy products have been used in automobile, communication and aerospace industries. Despite of the growing interest in magnesium alloys, very little data exist on the Magnesium alloy/carbon nanotubes reinforced composite. So in the present work,ZM5/CNT were prepared.In order to explore ZM5/CNT composite's preparation process as well as the liquid forming craft, seek the best processing parameter, this article used the mechanical stirring device to do the experiments on liquid ZM5. The mechanical capabilities of ZM5/CNT were tested. The microstructure was observed. The text studied the content of carbon nanotubes to change rheological behavior of the liquid magnesium alloy, the microstructure and the machanical capabilities, at the same time gave the reasonable analysis. The analytical calculations and the numerical simulation were done about the mold filling of the magnesium alloy.The resuts show that: there is no chemical reaction and no compound in the interface between carbon nanotubes and magnesium alloy. The tensile strength of composites increase with the increasing of carbon nanotubes, But the tensile strength will be decreased obviously when the content of carbon nanotubes is above 1.0 wt%. The elongation rate achieves high when the carbon nanotubes content is about 0.5wt%. The hardness of composites is higher than the matrix, but the influence of carbon nanotubes is not very remarkable. The elastic modulus are enhanced continuously with the increasing of carbon nanotubes. There are some round sockets in the fracture surface of composites. The reinforced phase takes good effect on the stress transfer during the course of tensile experiment. And the composite is strengthened by the reinforced phase and refining the grain. The fracture of composite is a ductile fraction.The success of ZM5/CNT composite's experiment may promote other magnesium alloys containing carbon nanotubes, composite's experiment.
