The monitoring of environmental pollution source is an extremely vital technical solution, which makes contribution for national strategy of sustainable development and the implementation of the unification of economy, environment and zoology. This thesis proposed a scheme based on embedded Arm-Linux technology from the viewpoint of future requirements and rigorous challenges in web-age, and started a systematic study of wireless network application. Finally a highly extensible architecture was put forward focusing on flexible requirements by means of porting Python component fully to monitoring node.The main contributions are as follows:(1) The current status of environmental monitoring was reviewed and a new scheme was presented for environmental monitoring node based on embedded Linux operating system.(2) The basic hardware and software platform supporting environmental monitoring was analyzed in detail. The environmental monitoring system frame was designed and implemented successfully with the conception of object-oriented programming (OOP).(3) In order to accommodate different kinds of data losses due to link errors, connection re-routing, and network congestion, this thesis discussed several critical issues we must properly resolve, such as hand-shaking protocol in application layer, time synchronization in wireless network, optimization for the cost of wireless network transmission.(4) By means of porting Python component, a kind of highly extensible system architecture was implemented, whose extensibility includes the following aspects: computation ability extension, action service extension, instruction set extension, and timer interrupt. The system designed was capable of meeting the increasing requirements of the new generation monitoring system.
