Fluoroquinolones are chemotherapeutic agents with broad antibacterial spectrum, and they are widely used in human and veterinary medicine. It is urgent that development methods of fluoroquinolones determination and its residues in food. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) has become a very important technique for pharmaceutical analysis because of its high separation efficiency, high speed and small sample volume requirements. This study is separation of ciprofloxacin (CIP), ofloxacin (OFL) and norfloxacin (NOR) by capillary electrophoresis. Study on the effects of pH, concentration of buffer, additive and voltage to the separation of the fluoroquinolones. It has good linearity and the fluoroquinolones are baseline separated in the best electrophoresis conditions. This method has been successfully applied to simultaneous determination of CIP, OFL and NOR in the pharmaceutical preparations. We also development a method for simultaneous determination of lomefloxacin, gatifloxacin, enoxacin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, enrofloxacin and pefloxacin, and apply it to the determination of fluoroquinolone residues in porcine tissue. After the tissue sample procedure, we can get the electropherogram of fluoroquinolones within 5 minutes in proper electrophoresis conditions. The method is simple and with high-speed comparison to the use of much organic solvents, the complicated tissue sample procedure and the long analysis time in HPLC.
