In this paper, Ag and AgCl nanoparticles were prepared by microemulsionsmethod;Meanwhile, Ag and AgCl nanoparticles with different configurationscould be synthesized under the acting of external alternating electric field;Atlast, the microstructure and formation mechanism of nanoparticles with differentconfigurations were primary studied. The configurations of sample were characterized by transmission electronmicroscope (TEM). The observation results show that configurations of Ag andAgCl nanoparticles, which were prepared in microemulsion composed the ionicsurfactant AOT, were spherical, particle with symmetrical size distribution;Byadjusting the concentration of nonionic surfactant polyethylene glycol (PEG) inthe water, the shape of nanoparticles, prepared by the liquor, could be changedfrom spherical to rod-like. Ag and AgCl nanoparticles with differentconfigurations, such as rod-like and chain-like, were prepared inmicroemulsions using the ionic surfactant AOT under the acting of alternatinglelectric field. The growth methods of nanoparticles were likely to two species:continuous growth and polymeric growth. The microstructures of nanoparticles werecharacterized by the selected area electron diffraction (SAED). The results showthat nanoparticles in continuous growth were single-crystalline, while those inpolymeric growth were poly-crystalline.Base on our investigation, the external alternating electric field could be anew means to induced the tropistic growth of nanoparticles in microemulsions.
