Cyanate ester resin (CE) possesses very low dielectric constant and dielectric loss. It has also balanced heat resistance and processing properties. However, the toughness and modulus of CE are not satisfied. The copolymerization behavior of Bisphenol A dicyanate ester resin (CE), bismaleimide resin (BMI) and epoxy resin (EP) was researched in this paper. And has been characterized and studied performances of the modified cyanate resin and the laminate through The purpose of this work is to develop a new kind of resin and CE-based composite with excellent mechanical, thermal and dielectric properties. It is also of value to provide a broad understanding about the modification of other thermo set polymer systems.First, the monomer of CE was purified and tested by modern methods of testing such as DSC , FTIR , GC-MS , and so on. FTIR analysis was indicated that the characteristic peak figures of groups of monomer were sharper after being purified, the intensity was increased to some extent also, and the absorption peak of impurity weakened even disappeared;DSC test result was revealed that the melting point of unpuried monomer was 75.94 ℃, but that of purified one had reached 82.27 ℃;GC-MS method of testing was carried on quantitative analysis to the monomer purity after being purified finally, the result was revealed that is up to 95% for the purity after being purified .In the research course of modifying to the cyanate ester, it was discovered that only BMI was melted to the liquid state first, then added in CE and EP ,well than the comparatively good resin casting body samples could be got through a lot of experiments. Mechanical, electric and heat-resistance performance of modified casting resin have been tested, and followed and analyzed the process of the resin cured with FTIR. The result of study was showed that the reaction of curing included BMI auto polymerization, BCE since auto polymerization, BCE copolymerizing with BMI, BCE with EP copolymerize reacting etc. The mechanical performance of the modified resin systems all increased in various degrees, however, electric performance and heat-resistance performance all dropped to some extent.Matrixed with the resin possessed good comprehensive performance, and reinforced with Model EW100 glass woven, the laminate was prepared. Through testing various performances of the laminate, the results were indicated that the laminate had fine impact performance, lower dielectric constant and dielectric loss and good absorption-resistance property. SEM pictures of the laminate were revealed the resin matrix was connected to interfaces between the glass cloth better.
