The anti-felting property of wool treated with the corona discharge and replacing theoxidation pretreatment of other anti-felting methods such as enzyme and polymer withcorona discharge were studied in the thesis.Corona discharge can enhance the anti-felting of wool fabric. Parameters such as voltage,times of corona discharge and regain have effect to the anti-felting property of wool. Theexperiment data indicate that, with the increase of voltage, times of corona discharge, thevolume of wool fabric felting decreases and it increases with the increase of wool regain.Of the three parameters, the times of corona discharge have the most effective level towool anti-felting property, then come to voltage and regain. The corona discharge canincrease the hydrophilic property of wool. However the corona discharge has an unsatisfiedeffect to anti-felting property of wool even it can develop the property.Anti-felting methods such as enzyme and polymer all have to be pretreated with oxidationbecause there is a water-proof layer on the wool fiber and water-proof layer blocks theenzyme to demolish the scales or block the bonding polymer with wool fiber. When thecorona discharge was used to replace the oxidation pretreatment of enzyme, the experimentdata show that, compared with wool fabric untreated with corona discharge, there is nodifferent in effect of wool anti-felting. In such case, the volumes of wool anti-felting wereaffected by the concentration of enzyme and they increase in same time and the volumes ofwool strength decrease. Experiment data show that the wool anti-felting property can notlast long time if the wool fabric was un-pretreated with oxidation because the polymer canshed from the face of wool fabric. Corona discharge ingraft many hydrophilic groups thatare benefit for the polymer combining with the fiber. The hydrophile property of woolfabric can increase sharply after it was treated with the corona discharge. For example, thetime of water absorbed by wool fabric decrease from 1800s to 2s. The corona dischargepretreatment have obvious advantages that are that this method don't harm to the strengthof wool fabric. The experiment data prove that adding the polymer to the wool fabrichaving been treated with the corona discharge is a satisfied anti-felting method, after woolfabric was washed 20 times with home washing machine, anti-felting ability of the fabricstill is satisfying.
