Sulfides have the special properties owing to their various structures, which are the popular inorganic multifunctional materials nowadays and their synthesis are becoming the research focus of inorganic chemistry. Solvothermal synthesis technique is an effective inorganic synthetic method to creat phases with new structures. Up to now, a lot of sulfides with novel structurse and properties have been obtained by this method. In this thesis, a rational solvothermal synthesis technique has been developed to synthesize the quaternary thiostannate. A novel compound (NH3CH2CH2NH3)HgSnS4 with column structure has been obtained by this way. The route is also characterized by mild reaction condition. The compound (NH3CH2CH2NH3)HgSnS4 crystallizes in the monoclinic, space group C2/c, with a =13.863(6) (A|°), b = 6.640(3) (A|°), c = 23.198(10) (A|°), β=106.168(7)°, Z=8. R=0.0658, ωR = 0.1087. It has the column structure consisted of anionic columns [HgSnS4]∞2- separated by [EnH2]2+ cations. The compound is also charecterized by SEM-EDS, DSC-TG, IR, XRD and Uv-Vis.The important effect factors of the synthesis include ratio of the reactants, cations, solvents, temperature and reaction time have been studied. On the basis of this synthesis, some new quaternary thioarsenate, thioantimonate have been obtained successfully.
