Open architecture numerical control system is research hotspot of NCtechnology now. Full software CNC is a new-style CNC, which can realizes allfunction of CNC including decoding, interpolation and position control. Then itmakes the configuration predigested and is the most important part of theresearch work of Open architecture numerical control system.Firstly, the paper analyses limitation of Windows in real-time performance. The strong real time tool-RTX, which developed by Venturcom in USA, isintroduced because of poor real time performance of windows. In the paper, thestructure of RTX is analyzed and the real-time performance of RTX is tested. Then according to the research of overall structure, a prototype system, which can realize basic function of machine NC, is designed. It is programmedwith VC++ 6.0 using object-oriented methods and fore-and-after structuralmodels on Windows operating system, which embedded with RTX. Inaddition,a shared memory is created for the communication between twoprocesses and a thread is created for the multitasks.Next, the paper develops the main modules of the prototype system indetail. The module of input code is used to read in NC codes. The module ofdecoding compiles NC codes. The module of real-time display, which displaysthe process of cutting, has image display and number display. The module ofinterpolation, which is very important in the research of full software CNC,fulfills the function linear and arc interpolation. Finally, effective test is done on the experiment table of AC servo motorcontrol system. It is proved that the full software CNC can realize the functionof CNC in high performance. Then the existing problems is analyzed.
