When Voelker, a German, got the patent of the glass electric melting technology in 1902. It lifted the curtain on Glass Melting by electric power. Subsequently it has been developed rapidly because of its advantage. And now Glass Electric Melting technology is used to produce the special type Glass in many factories in the world, it is suitable nearly for all kinds of glass, Relative to conventional flame furnace, glass melting technology has many virtues. Such as higher thermal efficiency, more outputs higher quality, simple structure, high automation and less pollution. It has good future from the point of energy sources and protecting environment. But it is very different from the flame furnace, some phenomena and theories about the glass electricmelting furnace are not unclear. Especially how electric power transmits when it enters the glass liquid, how it influences the temperature field and liquid field and their reaction. So this paper describes a glass electric melting furnace in Sichuan. It produces borosilicate glass. It is representative by using base vertical electrode and level electrode. A physical model was established on the basis of theory of similarity. And model liquid is obtained according to temperature -viscosity curve and temperature -resistance curve by using glycerin? syrup and lithium chloride. Then a model set is built by 1/10 scale. On the basis of the measurement of the temperature distribution. Potential distribution and observation on current patterns, We analysis the outcome of the model and compare with the corresponding points' data from the actual glass electric melting furnace ,discuss the relation of the electric field distribution and temperature and liquid field in the glass electric melting furnace, we point out the advantages and disadvantages in electric glass furnace, at last we give out some rules and advise when building a model or a furnace.
