The five axis simultaneously controlled machining center is an important kind of equipment, which is used to handle continuous smooth and complicated curve surface in automobile, mold and aerospace manufacturing. It integrates many-advanced machine tool manufacturing technologies. So industrial developed countries implement the export license limit on it and lay an embargo on five axis simultaneously controlled machine for military purpose. Therefore, focused on the field of machine tools, develop the precision five axis machining center for our national aerospace, military, scientific research, precision instrument and medical apparatus industries by us to have the important theories meaning and the application values. Supported by National Technology Innovation Program, we devote to the research and development program of precision high-speed five axis machining center.Based on the analysis and comparison of design technologies of five axis-machining centers and advanced machine structures, the existent problems and the development trends are analyzed. Some key technologies and methods, such as precision high-speed five-axis machining center's general layout, main function unit design, machine accuracy maintain and dynamic performance analysis of machine's highspeed motion, are studied.(1) The designing methods of five axis machining center are analyzed and compared in detail. After modeling and calculating lots of engineering restrictionfunctions, the machine's general layout plan is worked out. Furthermore, some main function units that include machine spindle, feed system and driving unit are finished.(2) Aimed at the machine accuracy, according to analyzing of exiting inspection systems and utilizing of advanced gravity center driven theory, the conceptual design of an advanced full-closed loop double optical grating inspection system is put forward.(3) The inclusion of a finite element analysis (FEA) in the product development is a key strategic advantage to the enterprises able to improve their product. Starting with analyzing the key-moving unit of the machine, we obtain the latest design blue prints and optimize part geometry directly. And modifies computer-based models whose behaviors closely resemble physical test result. Combined with design and analysis in the machining center development process, machine's performance such as high speed and manufacturing precision is ensured.(4) Based on our study, the high-speed five axis-machining center (NJ-5HMC40) is successfully developed with its own intellectual property. It passes the identification of Provincial S&T office recently. Practical application at national defense units shows that this equipment brings greater profits for customer from equipment investments.
