Preheating quality has a direct impact on the life of aluminum reduction cell. At present liquid aluminum preheating and coke-pellet preheating are widely used in China. The shortcomings of these two preheating methods, such as large heat strike and bad heat distribution, do great harm to the cell life. A new method called high-temp fume preheating was studied. Main research work and conclusions are as follows.(1) In the light of the shortcomings of the commonly used preheating methods, a new kind of equipment utilizing high-temp fume to preheat the 75kA aluminum reduction cells was developed.(2) With the application of mathematic models, important researches were done on each distribution room of the burning equipment and its structure was optimized according to the results of the simulation of the fluid field and the temperature field in the distribution rooms.(3) The burning equipment was tested in the laboratory, proving that it had good temperature-rising control ability and temperature and energy balance ability.(4) The burning equipment was applied on the 75kA cells and good results were achieved.
