Coking wastewater is a kind of typical refractory wastewater. There are many pollutants in this wastewater, such as hydroxybenzene, ammonia (usually recovered ammonium sulfate), cyanogens, phenol, indole uinnoline and so on. Components in the wastewater are very complicated. Concentration of the pollutants, its color and toxicity are high. And its character is stabilized. In the paper, complex flocculant PAFSS has been used to treat coking wastewater, including the preparation of PAFSS. Simultaneity, several simplex and complex flocculants were compared with it. As a result of the research, complex flocculant PAFSS which has good capabilities of neutralizing electric charge and flocculanting is effective to treat coking wastewater. In the experiment, the optimal dosage of flocculants and pH value have been ascertained, in the meanwhile, the interaction of the dosage and pH value also have been discussed. The purification efficiency of turbidity, chroma and COD which have been measured with the different dosage and pH value are 99.03%, 68.34% and 89.60% respectively. Finally, the turbidity and chroma of the coking wastewater are only 1.5NTU and 65mg/L. This number is much lower than the national discharging standards.
