The precise control of the carbon content in the steel is a very important way to improve the quality of the steel. Adjusting the content of carbon in the steel-melt beforehand is an advanced way to the steel mass production presently A high-efficient and steady product of carbon process in steel is strongly needed in order to improve the quality of the steel and the efficiency of production. The main factors, which determines the effectiveness of carburant, are the melting rate and absorptivity when the crude materials of carburant are exclusive. Based on the throwing-into process, the detailed studies are conducted in this paper, including the morphology of the carburant, the proportion of content between iron and carbon in the carburant, and the difference of the melting rate and absorptivity caused by the different morphologies and compositions of the carburant. The results of these studies show that the carburant with the morphology of the hollow cylinder has the biggest specific area and the most appropriate melting rate and absorptivity. Among the three morphologies of cylinder, the hollow cylinder and the sheet, when the proportion of content between iron and carbon is same, with the same morphology of carburant, the experimental results show that for the carburant with the carbon content of 25wt%,50wt% and 75wt%,the melting rate of the one with 25wt% is the highest, the one with 50wt% takes the second place, and the absorptivity of the one with 50wt% is the highest. In addition, the effects of stir and the temperature of carbon processes are studied, and pressure molding processes of the carburant are discussed. Furthermore, according to the real casting conditions, carbureting processes for Fe-C alloys are studied experimentally. In conclusion the carburant with a morphology of hollow cylinder and the carbon content of 50wt% is the appropriate one.
