| Within this thesis, fragrant ABS resin and its composite were prepared through two kinds of methods that is mixing and immersion. The processing technique of the essence microcapsule, the durability of the fragrance and the effect on material properties by adding essence or its microcapsule to the resin were mainly studied. By comparing the two different kinds of fragrant ABS resin and ABS/PC blend in their fragrant durability, economy, potential and utility, the formula and the processing flow of these two methods were determined: The results come as follows:(1) In order to increase the compatibility of essence with the matrix and obtain homogeneous distribution which in turn to decrease the volatility rate of essence, the filler-essence absorbent- was added while preparing fragrant ABS or ABS/PC blend by mixing for the essence is liquid. It is found that fillers have different absorbability with essence, and different amount of certain filler is required due to different essences. For example, the essence of sandalwood needs lower content of fillers than that of jasmine. And light calcium carbonate is the best filler as the essence absorbent.(2) The major factors that affect the volatility of the fragrant ABS and ABS/PC composite prepared by mixing are the nature of essence, the compatibility of essence with the matrix, the processing technique, and the external environment, etc. Better volatility activation of the essence, worse compatibility of essence with the ABS matrix, and higher temperature as well, could increase the volatility greatly. However, there should be a balance between better volatility and longer durability.During the preparation of the microcapsule of the essence, there are many factors which may influence the size, the shape, the size distribution of the microcapsules, and the wall thickness, such as the amount of material in cyst wall or capsule core, temperature, acidity, the times of complex coacervation, the stirring speed, the period of emulsification, and the amount of formaldehyde, etc.(3) As the amount of essence is lower than 0.5 percent, the processing mobility of the composite is improved substantially with little effect on the overall mechanical properties, for fragrant ABS and ABS/PC composite prepared by mixing. Comparatively, with the exception of solvent, immersion has trivial influence on the properties of fragrant ABS and ABS/PC blend. The impact strength is enhanced to some extent when the period of immersion is shorter than 0.5 hour, while little deterioration of integrated mechanical properties is observed.(4) The fragrant ABS and ABS/PC material modified by immersion overcomes the disadvantages of the fragrant resin prepared by classical methods, for instance, changing the fragrance difficultly, wasting of essence, and impairing the mechanical properties greatly. Therefore, the preparation of fragrant ABS and ABS/PC blend by immersion is fit for industrialized manufacture due to its convenient operation and various merits, such as longer retainment of fragrance, convenience for changing fragrance, lower amount of essence and lower cost, pure fragrance, slight variation of mechanical properties and no effect on processing mobility. |
