Optimizing the polymer molding process is a popular topic that has been studied and discussed in many literatures. Scholars have improved the qualities of plastics by adjusting the molding conditions, which is reported in their work. Few documents are talked about the optimum design on plastic articles based on the optimization theory. In this paper a complex plastic in existence has been optimized to reduce it' s volume by optimization theory and CAE.The product that has been molded wastes a lot of material for its thickness is not reasonable. In order to make full use of the material and improve the mechanical property of the product optimization design must be done. First, static analyses of the original predigested model have been studied by the ANSYS, the FEA software. According to the analysis results a modified model is obtained afterwards without changing the hydraulics property of the former product. Based on the improved model a mathematic model, constraint functions of which involve certain theories of polymer molding process, is built for the optimizing succeeding. Then the design space is made discretization and the results are worked out by program C. Last the load-carrying analysis and filling analysis of the optimized model are applied by ANSYS and Mold Flow. It' s showed that the results meet the requests of the mechanical behaviors and the molding process conditions. As aresult, the volume of the article is reduced from 3370mL to 2597mL, which lessens material nearly to 23%. Though the solution deviates from the minimum theoretical value due to the objective function built in the optimization process is an approximate expression and constraint functions are obtained from former empirical formulas, it' s of great practical import to put the results into use.Different from traditional optimized design this work combined properly optimization theory with CAE and avoided revising design parameters again and again. It' s efficient to design products using this method in practical produce. For the future the optimization of polymer molding process will be advanced rapidly if the question that searching automatically for the optimum design parameters can be solved.
