Chromate has been applied to different kinds of field in national economy, and most of them are the raw materials essertial chemical induestry . As the result, the development of chromate has the tight relation with other correlative line. Recently, the chromate industry in China has developed quickly, and its speed is faster than the speed of the national economy. But, the technics of the chromate industry in China is a little behindhand: once produce 1 ton products, they get 2.5-3 ton chromium residues at the same time. Chromium residues are poisonous wastes, because there is 1-2% calcium chromate and 0.5-1% water-soluble Cr6+. In this article, the author studied the disposal of chromium residues and general using approach, in order to dispose the chromium residues, and make the wastes available. In this article, the author investigated some chromate-making corporation in China, especially the company of Min Feng in ChongQing and studied the chemical component, crystal structure, radioactive level, harmful minim element, toxicity mechanism of the chromium residues, so that got the pracfical foundation for disposal of chromium residue. On this base, the author analysed all detoxifcation methods for chromium residues, studied the mechanism and technics, and analysed the prospect of application and feasibility of these methods according to the domestic fact. Referring to chromium residues in the company of MinFeng in ChongQing, we can get many important parameters to anaiyze the nature of chromium residues, by obserring their strctures and phase components through partial light microscope, there are a lot of thin crystals, and some glass-phase materials in chromium residues. Through XRD, there are dicalcium silicate, tetracalcium ferrite, calcium chromate, calcite and chromium iron spinel mineral in chromium residues. Mensurating the radioactive level, the chromium residues can meet used for the GB9196-88, satisfied the need of architectural materials. There are three types about disposing of chromium residues: the first is making harmless. Through physical and chemical methods, make the chromium residues untoxin, for example, stacking, solidification, deoxidizing, complex method, using microwave, and using electrochemistry methods. The second is general using and making the wastes available, for example, peddling, making cement, making glass brick, making fire-resistant materials, making tiny-crystal, making dye, making fertilizer, making brick and building road. The third is adopting green technics which let no polution , such as liquid-phase oxidation technics and un-calcuim calcine technics . The methods and approaches for disposing chromium residues, can not only be applied to disposal of chromium residues, but also deserved to be applied to all solid wastes .
