Chemists are strongly interested in synthesizing the ferrocenyl amino-acid complexes, and researching the properties and applications of them. The complexes would have some potential applications in genetic engineering and biology. We obtained three single crystals by the reactions of the a-benzamido-β-ferrocenylic acid and corresponding metal ions, and conformed the crystal structures of the three complexes by X-ray diffraction. Then we characterized the compounds by IR, DPV, TG, and DTA. Exceptionally, we discussed the electronic structure and bonding properties by quantum chemistry calculation.Firstly, the annular dimer [CdL2(H2O)2]2 was synthesized ay the room temperature, and characterized by single X-ray crystallography. The complex has well symmetrical character. The carboxy of the ligand play an important role in the structrure. Four ligands coordinated to the metallic ions in the ways of μ2 and μ3.Secondly, we synthesized the centro - symmetric dimer [PbL(phen)]2·L with α-benzamido -β- ferrocenylic acid and phen. The phen chelates the Pb ion by the two N atoms, the coordination mode of each N atom is μ1. Each Pb ion has an irregular tetragonal pyramid polyhedral coordination enviroment. Finally, we synthesized the pentagonal mononuclear [ZnL2(phen)(H2O)] with α-benzamido-β-ferrocenylic acid and phen. The phen coordinated to the metallic ions in the way of μ1 and chelates the Pb ion by the N atoms. The Zn ion has an trigonal bipyramid polyhedral coordination enviroment.
