Chengdu is both the science, finance center and transportation, communication hinge of south-west china. After nearly three decades of economic reform and booming industrial development, more and more waste which would induce serious environment problem is charging into the river and lake directly or indirectly in the city. This phenomenon is especially significant in heavy metal pollution, because heavy metals are not decomposed, and are easy to be accumulated and their toxicities can be magnified through food chain. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the content, speciation, and time-space distribution of heavy metals in sediment which is the main place heavy metals accumulating in. And the result would make a great contribution to understanding the heavy metal resources, pollution status and the affection to the ecosystem, and have a great significance to the prevention of city water contamination and environmental protection. My research which based on adequately investigation of the basic status of the water system and environment in Chengdu took some representative lakes or ponds as the research samples. The content, speciation and distribution of heavy metals are investigated. Further more, the factor of transport and transformation an accumulation of heavy metals are analyzed , I have made a evaluation of heavy metal pollution with a geology accumulation exponential method. Associated with the history of both the society and economy development and the contamination of Chengdu, the source of heavy metal in sediment are discussed. This paper could also be regarded as a reference of the environment management and protection of Chengdu.
