There are the brief introduction for the development of transformer oils in homeland and overseas in paper. There are the description of the material and the course of manufacture and the international standard and the country standard in paper. The article chiefly researched the relation between the solubility properties, electrical properties (on gassing properties and impulse breakdown), oxidation stability and the difference aromatic content of transformer oils. The article mostly investigated the influence of the different aromatic hydrocarbon content on the solubility properties, electrical properties (on gassing properties and impulse breakdown) and oxidation stability of transformer oils. Simultaneity the article researched the influence of polyaromatic content on gassing properties and oxidation stability of transformer oils. From the research results, for the solubility properties and gas absorption, high aromatic content is desirable. In impulse breakdown, high aromatic content is undesirable. The several method for evaluating oxidation stability of transformer oils are adopted in the research. The IEC61125C is the most valuable method for evaluating oxidation stability of transformer oils with the different aromatic content. As a whole, for oxidation stability, higher aromatic content is undesirable, lower aromatic content is undesirable. 4% of aromatic content CA in transformer oils clearly shows high performance on oxidation stability in an inhibited oil and a non-inhibited oil.
