In this paper, cross tube is regarded as the research object, and the study is distributed into the shaped-tube drawing process. Based on the flow function theory of cold extrusion, streamline field of shaped-tube drawing process is established first, and this has offered possibilities for improving the material flowing state and reducing energy consumption.According to the velocity filed mentioned above, the contour of the drawing die was rationally designed. To prove its applicability and superiority, FEM software, MARC and SUPERFORM, were used to simulate the drawing process of cross tube in "conical die" and "streamlined die". From the 2D and 3D simulation results, the stress-strain distribution discipline in steady-state was obtained, and the contrast analysis was performed in curve distribution and numerical value. Meanwhile, the factors that affected the drawing process (such as conical angle, reduction in area, friction, drawing velocity etc) were discussed. In addition, many problems appeared in practice production frequently, including transverse crack, longitudinal crack, irregularity of tube end etc, were analyzed and the corresponding explanation was got from simulation. The study indicated that the results got from streamline velocity field are more closely to practice and the streamlined die designed by this was superior to conventional one, mainly in the improvement of material flowing state and drawing stability, reducing energy consumption and die abrasion.
