Wetland ecosystems are one of the four types of territorial ecosystems on the earth andplay a very important role as sink C and source C. The C cycling in wetland ecosystemslargely affected the budge of the global atmosphere C cycling and global climatic changes.Model is a very important way to research the C cycling in wetland ecosystems. In thisstudy, CENTURY model was used to analyze the carbon cycle in the Zhalong wetlandecosystem. The CENTURY model of soil organic matter developed by Parton and co-workers hasbeen used successfully for grasslands to predict dynamics of C, N, and others nutrition. Inthis study, the model was used to simulate trends in soil organic matter in Zalong WetlandNature Reserve. Simulations were run for a range of starting soil carbon levels, soil physicalproperties, and climate sites with model. As for to analyze the wetland ecosystem , the watercondition must be added to the management event in the model. Thought the result of theCENTURY model was not as good as the grassland ecosystem, it was rational to simulatedthe trends of SOM in 100-year in Zhalong reserve. Feasibility study of measured andsimulated SOM is well and the relationship is reasonable. The results that the CENTURY model simulated and the feasibility study revealed that SOMsubmodel and the production submodel was reasonable to simulate, but the N submodelshowed lower relationship between the simulated data and the measured data. Since thewater condition had strongly influence on the N status, the structure of the CENTURYmodel should be verified. The SOM submodl simulated the 100 years changes from 1910 to2010. The trend of the SOM was increasing before the 1940's from the simulated data, butfrom then on the SOM was continuously decreasing. The change of the biomass wasrelationship to the climate change from 1970 to 2010 and it showed a slighted decreasingtrend in the recent years. The results in water immersed were more stable than that in nowater immersed and the water condition was very important to the wetland ecosystem.Model can predict the trend of the change in the Zhalong wetland ecosystem. On the onehand, it enhance the understanding of the wetland mechanism; on the other hand, itsupport the conversation of the wetland in principle.
