With the development of computer's software and hardware, the virtual reality, as a new rising technology, is used more and more widely. Virtual reality is an advanced man-machine interface which allows human beings to immerse in an artificial environment created by computer, and by this means, the human beings can conduct in a natural but virtual environment. Linking to the State Nature Scientific Fund Program, taking the reach of Huai River in Anhui, this paper makes researches on the three-dimensional real time expressions of river quality data in the virtual reality environment.Scene simulation technology and scientific calculation visualization are two main applications of virtual reality. This thesis proposes a new idea of combining the two techniques by using the interactive capacity of VRML and Java to solve the problem of how to illustrate the river quality in the three-dimension space.1. This paper summarizes the present research conditions of virtual reality home and abroad, analyzes the defeats in traditional methods, lodges the significance of this technology in the expressions of river quality, on the basis of which, the research content is brought forward.2. This essay introduces the theory of Scene simulation and the specification of VRML in the first place as well as the 3D terrain of river area constructed by VRML and other building model software. We construct the three dimensional terrain scene of a certain river area in this paper.3. The expression mode of multidimensional information and the static and dynamic expressions of the river quality in the 3D environment are both discussed in this essay, via VRML and JavaScript. It's also discussed how to realize the interaction of Java and VRML so as to realize the illustration of river quality in 3D in the next step through the way of setting the senor, route, script and node in VRML.The research result indicates that the combination of Scene simulation technology and scientific calculation visualization can availably solve the question of how to express dynamically the river quality data in 3D, compensates the defeats of the traditional approaches, and improves the visualization and interaction of the analysis and research on the river quality data.The essay finally gives a prospect of this job and represents the difficulties in the expressions of river quality by the present VRML and states that the technology of GeoVRML and X3D could be used in this field to perfect the original system.
