The graphite anode electrolyzers(GAE) was listed at the eliminations backward feehnology catalog by state economic and trade comnicttee. and will be washed out gradcdly in 2004. On the basis of its layout, utilities, chlorine demands for chloroluethanes finacial operation and occupying 10% GAE in 16 and 27 model. Houghe Chemical Inc has decided to begain the technical project to phase out the GAE by means of metallic anode one through expounding and proof.This paper is based on the basic theory of chloroalkaline, researches over-potential oxygen and hydrogen percipitation on the electrode, analyses the impact of different conditions(temperature, couceutration electrolyte, aicdity and brine guality,etc) on the electrolysis, provides the process parameters for the project and involves awpplication of cathode electrocatalysis.The research project is in the light of the enterprise production development, capital and market demand, implements the principle of gradual elimcication, steady modification, expounds the reason why to choose the GAE instead of advaueed ionic exchange membrane cell. During Engineering process, the proceass calcalcation had been done in detail. Through two years execution, the technical innovation had been realized, the big profit had been made the investment 12 million yuan at the first stage had been recouped in August,2002.The study result of the paper could be an experience to the Chinese caustic plant for the technical innovation. The utilized new technologies and Know-how in thepaper makes the study engender huge economic values and benefits competition of Chinese chloro-akaline industry.
