The effects of chemicals used in the cationic polymerization of butyl rubber and its polymerization conditions were studied. Moreover, the preferable polymerization conditions for the preparation of butyl rubber and activation energy of chain-propagation (Ew) of the polymerization were obtained. The results showed that the product was massed easily to turn into gel during the process of polymerization. The slurry stabilizer of chlorine-capped polystyrene in different chlorine content was prepared by radical polymerization. The effect of chlorine-capped polystyrene on the polymerization of butyl rubber was studied in the presence of AlCl3/C-c PS/CH3C1 or TiCVC-c PS/ (CH2Cl2/C6Hi2) , in different conditions, such as adding way, adding time and content of chlorine-capped polystyrene. Effects of the stabilizing slurry and the reducing gel were proved by optical-microscope, and theproducts were characterized by GPC. IR.1H NMR. TG The mechanism was proposed.
