Abstract/Summary:
(1) Polyamic acid (PAA) was synthesized by the condensation polymerization of benzoguanamine (BGA) and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) under microwave irradiation. Then a series of PAA-based new side chain polymers have been synthesized through azo coupling reaction. Azobenzol units are attached to PAA side chain, and different groups were selectively introduced to the para position of azobenzol units in order to investigate the electronic effects on fluorescent properties and the third-order NLO properties.(2) An azobenzol compound containing two azo bands was synthesized and introduced to PAA main chain. We investigated the effect of azo side chain length on the NLO properties by comparing the third-order NLO coefficients and response times of PAA and its graft polymers.(3) TDI-aliphatic alcohol derivatives and TDI-p-substituted aniline derivatives were introduced as the second side chain to the other end of the grafted PAAs' unit. The effects of side chain length and electronic effect of the end group in side chain on the fluorescence behavior and the third-order NLO properties of the polymer solutions were studied. The fluorescence properties of the polymer films were also investigated.
