The synthesis of L-ascorbyl palmitate(L-AP) from L-ascorbic acid, palmitic acid and sulfur chloride was studied in this paper. The reaction was carried out in the medium of N,N-dimethylacetamide and dichloromethane. The high-purity white crystal of L-AP was obtained after separation and purification. The product is a kind of antioxidant which is safe, non-toxic, highly efficient and lipid-soluble, and its quality accorded with the quality level of BP98, FAO/WHO and FFIV of china (GB04011).The optimum reaction conditions of the method using acyl chloride was established by the verification experiments and the single factor experiments. The yield and purity of crude product was 85% and 90% respectively. Product purity could be enhanced to 95% through extraction with chloroform, and the yield of the extraction was not less than 90%.White needle crystal that had stable color and good appearance was given out through the recrystallization using the mixed solvent of alcohol and chloroform. The melting point of the product was 112~117℃. The purity was determined through the iodimetry and was not less than 99%. The analysis by HLPC and IR showed that the product was same as it of Roche Co. and reached the level of foreign products. Moreover, the methods of quality detection and solvent recovering was investigated in this paper. And the process of industrial production and the cost check of raw material were also involved.
