In this paper, the methods of preparing ceramic lined steel pipes by SHS-gravitational process were comprehensively studied, and we have successfully made ceramic lined steel pipes, especially the small inner diameter steels. The small inner diameter pipes( 15mm- 20mm) were successfully made in this experiment, which were wildly used in the wearable and anti-corrosive fields.The composition of the thermit was made by thermodynamic calculation, phase diagram analysis and the ratio of thermit and pipe. The max ratio of thermit and pipe is 0.5627, through the ratio we set down the reasonable ways of the experiment.In the experiment ,the ceramic lined steel pipes that the inner diameter is between 15 mm and 25mm were made, which were wildly needed by industry.We study the affection of the ceramic layer by adding some different additive(for example: TiO2> ZrO Al2O3 CaO etc), and we discuss the affection of the layer through the different thermit density, the wall of the pipe and inner diameter. Through calculating and experiment we get the appropriate density which is 1. 6g/cm. We also can prepare fine ceramic lined pipe through adding some thinner when we preheating-up.The microstructure and the composition were analysed by using XRD,SEM, energy spectra and optics microscope.
