The combination of liquid chromatographic separation and mass spectroscopic (LC/MS) detection is an important analytical technique. The technique is increasingly being used for many fields, such as chemistry, medication sanitation, food science, life science and environment science, because it offers high sensitivity and selectivity in the analysis of a wide range of compounds. Many pesticides have been used to improve agriculture productivity. It has resulted in the wide distribution of these compounds in the environment. There has also been considerable concern over hormones in the environment and food since they have the potential ability to disrupt the normal functions of the endocrine of human. Consequently, very strict programs to control the level of pesticides and hormones in the food and environment have been instituted in many countries such as the United States and the European Community. Precise and reliable analysis methods are urgent to determine the residues of pesticides and hormones in the environment and food.In this thesis, the current situation, development and tendency for the analysis of pesticide residue and hormone residue were reviewed. The fundamental principle, character and recent progress of LC/MS were introduced. The following aspects were investigated:1. A simple multi-residue method for determination of estriol, estradiol, testerone, norethisterone, ethynylestradiol, estrone and progesterone in sewage was developed. It was accomplished by combining solid phase extraction with liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.2. A rapid, sensitive method for analysis of cadusafos, atrazine, carbofliran in sugar was established by LC/MS. It has been employed in the analysis of sugar samples successfully.3. The method for analysis of flumetsulam, thiodicard, fenoxycarb and fipronil in soil was established by LC/MS. It is reliable and accurate.4. A method for the simultaneous separation and determination of apomorphin, aildenafil megestrol, acetate aorgestrel, megestrol acetate and hydroxyprogesterone caproateis was established by LC/MS. The method has been used for the analysis of some weigh-reducing Tonic.
