The new process and apparatus of evaporation-vortex oxidation-fast condensation, made by ourselves, was used to prepare CdO powder and the systematical investigations of the operating conditions on the physi-chemical and electrical properties for the obtained powder were also carried out. The results showed that evaporation temperature and amount, primary blow and secondary blow were the key parameters which had great effects on the properties of the produced powder. By optimization of these conditions, the obtained CdO powder is a kind of well dispersed ultrafine powder with the fcc crystal structure,hexahedron micro-morphology, excellent apparent density and electro-chemical properties.Based on the experimental results, high quality active CdO powder was prepared on large scale. And the electro-chemical capacity of the obtained CdO powder were evaluated by bag electrode and slurry cathode methods. The results showed that the capacity of its bag electrode capacity was 297.5 Ah/kg.Cd0 and slurry cathode capacity was 248.6 Ah/kg.CdO, which both showed high active as the desired materials for the Ni-Cd batteries with its synthetical properties better than the same class of foreign products.
