Underground pressure and timbering technology in laneway construction in soft rock mass is one of the complicated technical problems. Maluping section of Kaiyang phosphor mine is a typical mine in soft rock mass. The roof and laneway subsidence, roof fall, collapse and jamb destruction caused by mining in Maluping badly effect the enterprise's operation and security of mining. The water storehouse at 740 in Maluping mine plays a key role in its underground water reservation and drainage, the stability of the pump room is especially important to the mine's production. The distortion and bend of the transverse girder on the top of the pump room in use occurs, and some cracks appear on the wall, which the water is going through. This paper presents the principal results of some important studies made about the following 2 issues: 1) the underground pressure problem in Maluping deep mining and; 2) the distortion problem of the 740 water storehouse.Based on the studies of the mechanical characteristics of soft rock mass and the timbering theory, the author studied very well the deep mining underground pressure of Maluping mine, the laneway distortion had been studied by using non-linear large distortion geometry theory. With multi-point extensometer, a long-term underground pressure observation in preparatory work, cutting laneway and mining site had been realized. The author had presented the space-time relationship of the Maluping deep mining underground pressure, the reasonable parameters of the mining construction and the adaptive control solutions of underground pressure.Considering the engineering conditions on site of the 740 water storehouse, which includes hydrological and geological conditions, the structure of timbering and its methods, and the effect of blasting waves etc., with the help of tape-extensometer and multi-point extensometer, the author had studied the distortion problem of the water storehouse, and had found out its principal rules applied. The solution to control the distortion had been pulled up as well.The result obtained by Author's studies had been used very well in Maluping mine. Obviously it could be a good reference to the other similar engineering issues, especially to the other mining design and security problems in soft rock mass.
