To utilize plentifuly starch resources in our country and meet higher requests from papermaking technique to papermaking additives, the formation mechanisms of complexes between starch and polyamines were studied, and the functions of the complexes as additives in papermaking wet end were investigated. In chapter 2, the optimum conditions for starch gelatinization were obtained after studying the effects of gelatinization time, temperature, additives, ect on starch solubility and performance in the wet end.In chapter 3, the influence of polyamine structures and molecular weights on the performance of original starch/polyamine complex was studied. The results indicated that the complex(SCPA3) of starch and CPA with molecular weight of 12 million, performance like cation starch in papermaking, had the best effects on the recycled pulp.In chapter 4, the functions of complex SCPA under different papermaking conditions and the interaction effects of SCPA3 and rosin were investigated. In chapter 5 , viscosities of starch/polyamine complexes and their adsorption on the pulp fiber were mensurated. The varieties of physical and chemical properties in starch/polyamine complexes and interactions between complexes and the pulp fibers were investigated by SEM, UV, IR, etc.The formation mechanisms and the functions of starch/polyamine complexes in the papermaking wet end were discussed. The results obtained in this study enriched the theories of polymer interface science.
