Catalytic property of the heteropoly compounds can be adjusted and controlled by changing the central atoms and coordination atoms as bing reported in recent years. In this thesis, the transition metals and rare earth element were introduced in the molybdenic heteropoly compounds in order to improve their catalytic activities. Six noval heteropoly compounds containing transition metal and rare earth elements (Mo, V, La and Mn) were synthesized. They are H3[PMo12O40] 3C2H6O(1), H4[PMo11VO40] 28H2O(2), H3[Mo12VO40] 10H2O(3), (NH4)7[Mo8V5O40]-10H20(4), H4La8Mo3V2O48(5) and H12[K6MnMo9O38] (6). The suitable synthesis conditions were discussed. The products were characterized by IR, UV, XRD, TG-DTA, CV and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The results show that the structures of H3[PMo12O40] 3C2H6O(1), H4[PMo11VO40] 28H2O(2) and H3[Mo12VO40] 10H2O (3) are the Keggin type. The structures of (NH4)7[Mo8V5O40] 10H2O(4) and H4La8Mo3V2048(5) are the analogy Keggin type and the structure of H12[K6MnMo9O38] (6) belongs to Waugh type. Both H3[Mo12VO40] 10H2O (3) and (NH4)7[Mo8V5O40] -10H2O(4) were used in the synthesis of butyl acetate and phenol hydroxylation. The effects of reaction conditions, such as solvent, amount of catalyst, temperature, ratio of reactants, time and the different structures of catalysts on catalytic activity were investigated.
