| Sculptured surfaces are widely adopted in design of mechanical products especially in the design of mould and die. The characteristics of sculptured surfaces have result in the application of the technology of CAD/CAM, which shortens the periods of designing and manufacturing and improves the quality. With 50 years' development, the technology of CAD/CAM is widely used. It is meaningful to improve the level of its application in the design and manufacture of sculptured surfaces.The case is part of the project Study On CAD/CAM of Sculptured Surfaces And Proper Selecting of Parameters of NC Millig(Project NO.:2001YY01), which is funded by the Fund for development of Science and Technology of Tianjin Education Committee. The purpose of the paper is to seek the effective methods of modeling the sculptured surfaces and selecting the proper NC milling parameters in the general software of CAD/CAM such as UG NX, Pro/E.The main work includes:1. Several modeling methods are adopted in our research: (1) the direct modeling method; (2) Reverse Engineering method; (3) Modeling in CAS system;. (4) Other modeling ways.2. The characteristics of applying the CAD/CAM system to program the NC program of sculptured faces are exploited.3. Basing the theory of KBE, compile the application of selecting optimistic NC milling parameters. The application can be used to help to selecting the optimistic NC milling parameters in the milling of parts with sculptured surfaces4. Basing the selected parameters and the model which was created with the above methods, carry out the experiment of milling the male die of the mouse's upper shell and the cavity die of the bottle's floor. The experiment verified the feasibility of the model and the NC milling parameters. |
