The Synthesis And Property Of ASA Resin

Poly(butyl- acrylate)/styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer (ASA resin) was synthesized, according to the principle of toughening plastics by rubber. The manufacture process of ASA resin was designed as the preparation of poly(butyl-acrylate) composite latex→ enlargement of rubber particles→ St/AN cograft onto poly (butyl-acrylate) → conglomeration of ASA→ washing→ drying. Core-Shell emulsion copolymerization laws and composite properties were investigated through the synthesis and characterization of ASA composite latex and the properties of ASA composite copolymer.The influences of emulsifier level, crosslinking agent level, initiator level had been studied systematically. It was found that the rubber particle size can be controlled by using the seed emulsion polymerization technique.ASA graft copolymer was synthesized by emulsion graft copolymerization, using PBA latex as seed and styrene/ acrylonitrile as grafting monomers. The effect of emulsifier level and initiator level on the graft degree and the graft efficiency were studied. According to the crosslinkage and the more reactive a-H of rubber chain, a graft copolymerization mechanism was analyzed.Particle size analyzer was employed to examine latex particlesize and size distribution. TEM was employed to examine the particle shape, particle core-shell structure, the dispersion state and the fractured surfaces of PBA/SAN. DMA was employed to examine the mechanical phenomenon of dynamic viscoelasticity.Using double-screw extruder, ASA copolymer was blended with SAN resin to prepare ASA resin. Effects of the gel content of rubber and graft degree on the impact property of ASA resin were studied through mechanical testing.
