Utilizing radiation technology to develop some high-performance products in plastic processing is a combination of field order of radiation process technology and macromolecule material.Because of the fierce competition , the polypropylene manufacturing enterprise of the world has to strengthen the input to the diversification and functional of polypropylene, and the research and development of transparent polypropylene is becoming development trend of new-type polypropylene, at present. Focal point tht subject studies is that making PP get certain transparence by adding clarifier, the performance is improved by combining radiation technology ,and the application field is widen ,at the same time. This paper adopts electronic accelerator irradiation to do some experiments about grafting modification and cross-linking modification, lays emphasis on researching the gel factor such as the varieties cross-linking agent, different content of cross-linking agent, the radiation dosage , antioxidant , clarifier. In addition, properties of polypropylene are studied, such as mechanical properties, rheological properties and thermal properties. Some research on grafting modification are made, the structure of grafting products is studied through infrared spectropy, the influence factors on grafting rate and the properties of grafting products are dicussed.The experimental result showing : Gel content rises with the increase of content of radiation dosage and the content of cross-linking agent. The antioxidant can make certain inhibition effect on cross-linking reaction under low dosage, but little influence under high dosage. Clarifier did little effect on gel. Different cross-linking agent makes different cross-linking behavior: TMPT can produce certain cross-linking reaction under low dosage, TAC and TAIC need higher dosage to fulfill cross-linking, however. The grafting rate can occur a peak value with the increase of radiation dosage. Different grafting monomer also produce some effect on grafting rate: ethyl acrylate can do grafting reaction easier than styrene, and get higher grafting rate. No matter cross-linking or grafting mechanical properties and thermal properties of polypropylene are improved greatly. But, excessive gel make rheological properties become bad, and the transparence can reduce at the same time. So, to attain better performance, we must control the gel content.
