Two novel chrial amino alcohols l,3-bis-[(2S)-(hydroxy-diphenylmethyl) -pyrro-lidin-l-yl]-propanone 1 and l,3-bis-[(2S)-(hydroxyl-diphenylmethyl)-pyrro lidin-l-yl]-propan-2-ol 2 were synthesized by the reaction of 1,3-dibromo-2-pro -panone with diphenyl-pyrrolidin-2-yl-methanol in five steps. The yields were 39% and 35%, respectively.The catalysts generated from the reaction of diethylzinc with the two aminio alcohols were used in the asymmetric catalytic direct Aldol reaction of unmodified ketones and aldehydes. Moderate yields and ee were observed. The reaction conditions were also optimized.
