The materials of wettable cathode and inert anode are keys of developing new generation electrolysis technology. The preparations for these materials are very challengeable, but very critical to improve aluminum production technology ultimately. Hence, the preparation of wettable titanium diboride cathode was carried out experimentally in this research.The development of domestic and foreign development and the literature review on wettable cathode and inert anode are thoroughly evaluated.Titanium diboride possess an unusual combination of property, such as high hardness, high melting point, low electrical resistivity, sodium corrosion resistance and good wettability with liquid aluminum. Titanium-diboride coating can act as a barrier to sodium penetration into cathode lining, lowering the cathode-lining Ohm drop, enabling a lining configuration, lowering electrolysis temperature improving the cell operation by elimination of the metal pad and reduction magnetic field influence, induced turbulence, enabling cells run better, reducing ACD(Anode-Cathode Distance) from 4cm to 2 cm. The use of TiE$2 can be expected to result in a new path of saving energy consumption. On the other hand, if we chose the traditional process , It is difficultly to preparation the material's hardness is enough, it is very important to develop novel technology that is cost-effective, property reliable. The cell can reduce the energy consumption by 25% and reduce pollution.We study the preparation at lower temperature technology of alumni colloid adheres to Titanium-diboride on the reason of reaction and preparation evaluate.The paper use FACT-WIN database software analyzed the reaction of the system we devise; study the reaction of the material in smelt-salt environment. At the same time, we analyzed the reaction of produce the TiBa directly.Use aluminum -salt preparation stable alumni colloid ,add up manometer Titanium-diboride into alumni colloid by means of high surface specific area and activity of nanometer grain, made up stable distract Titanium-diboride slurry , then we make out TiE$2coating, TiB2 ceramic material, TiB2 combination carbon under 900-1200癈 .This paper analyzed the cathode product property interferes by processes parameter systemic, and evaluated the micro constructor and property of coating and material .Use SEM analyzed the surface and interface of TiB2 material, We check out the mechanic property, such as density, hardness, pressure intensity Analyze the character of wettable cathode and the possibly of the material use.The study show us if we use alumni colloid adherence Titanium-diboride can lower sinter temperature of Titanium-diboride, made the process simple, this technology can be used in electrolysis cell with lower cost, and can be large scale used easily.The project was supported by the nature fund of YUNNAN province, and also acquire the Yunnan aluminum Ltd,Co help.
