With the development of plastic door-window industry, more high quality of plastic profiles is required. Die is one of the critical parts in profile extrusion procedure. There is a gap of die quality to some extent between home and abroad mainly because of the differences in design technology.Functional block structure is more complicated than the main profile and more difficult to be formed into the needed profile. Therefore, whether the structure design of functional blocks is good or not affects the right profile shape. Very few studies on functional block structure were reported, consequently, the structure design of functional blocks was selected as the research object in this paper. In this paper research of functional block structure was based on the theory of rheology of the polymer melt and the basic requirement of extrusion die channel. Various functional block structures of different factories home and abroad were analyzed and the structure characterizations of functional blocks were also summarized. Based on the former work and our rich experience in die design, the strategies and methods of structure design of functional blocks were developed in this paper. Combining with the structure dimensions measured from the newest die, the strategies and methods were checked and improved . The functional blocks were studied separately at the whole profile and individually by using the soft FLOW2000, and the developed strategies and methods were improved and supplemented. According to the research results, a program was compiled to realize the computer aided design of functional block structure by VBA language, which improves design efficiency and relieve the designer.
