The thesis does some research on the circular settling tank, which is used in the wastewater recycle project of Fushun Ethene corporation. The computational fluid mechanics principles were applied to numerical simulation and analysis of flow and concentration field of the circular settling tanks. It has been shown that hydraulic peculiarity is a important factor to influence the tank efficiency.First, a static mathematical model for flow and particle concentration fields in the circular settling tank is established, which is based on system partition and model assumption, Second, based on the staggered grid, the discretization scheme of control equation is drew by the finite volume method, and its solution is calculated by the SIMPLEC algorithm, which contributes to the drawing of the flow and particle concentration fields of the settling tank. Last, it can be seen that the calculated flow and concentration field are correct by the comparison with the calculated result of ANSYS and sampling mensuration in the tank.It has been shown that hydraulic peculiarity has a important influence on the settling tank efficiency, by analyzing the calculate solution. In hydraulic design of settling tank, care should be taken to ensure the smaller recirculation regions and ensure steadier flow velocity on vertical section of settling tank. So it is feasible and meaningful to make the numerical simulation on the settling tank or other hydraulic building in the design of wastewater treatment project.
