A kind of multifunctional environmental-friendly coating was prepared. It combined damping properties and fire-retardant properties together.In this paper , a series of P(St-MMA)/P(EA-nBA) latex Interpenetrating Networks(LIPN) have been synthesized and the damping properties were studied with DDV-III-EA Rheovibron Viscoelastometer. The results show that 5% AN and 10% MMA added in the first networks of PSt/P(EA-nBA) increased the damping value as well as broaden the damping temperature region of the system. It has been found that the distribution of AA in the two networks affected the damping properties apparently. Concerned to this system when AA was introduced in the second network, it can improve the damping properties.By orthogonal experiment method, the influences of the ratio and amount of the carbonifying catalyst ammonia polyphosphate (APP), foaming agent melamine (MEL) and carbonizer pentaerythritol (PE) used in the latex Interpenetrating Networks on the properties of fire-retardancy were studied . The optimum amount of fire-retardant components was obtained.The rheology of the latex coatings with different kinds of thickeners was investigated. We also studied their effects on several other properties of the latex coatings.
