E. gelatinae and E. striatum were collected from the cultivative base in Qionghai city of Hainan province. Nineteen samples were isolated from E. gelatinae and E. striatum . Biological activities of some samples have been studied in the paper.Sulfated polysaccharide (SPS) was extracted from E. gelatinae and E. striatum by water. The classification products of SPS were fracted by KC1. The hydrolysates of SPS were hydrolyzed by acid. Five samples were purified from GSPSAi and SSPSAi by DEAE. Some samples of above got some property of physical and chemical examinations. This paper studies the antibacterial effect of some samples on eight strains of bacteria such as E. coli. MIC of different samples to various bacteria was determined by way of double-dilute method. The results indicate that the hydrolysates of the extracted sulfated polysaccharide have antibacterial activity as well as the unhydrolyzed samples have no effect at the tested concentration; The antimicrobial spectrum extends as the degree of SPS hydrolyzation increasing. It is inferred that the antibacterial activity and the antimicrobial spectrum of the samples increase, while the content of v. -carrageen, sulfated group and the degree of hydrolyzation of the samples increase. This paper studies the cytotoxicity of the above samples and the association of samples with sensitivity to cisplatin in HepG2 and AFTC-A-1 cells by MTT bioassay. The results indicate each samples of SPS show cytotoxicity to HepG2 cells and some samples of SPS to AFTC-A-1 cells and enhance sensitivity to cisplatin in HepG2 and AFTC-A-1 cells. It is inferred that the cytotoxicity and association of samples with sensitivity to ciplatin may be correlated with K -carrageen, sulfated group and the degree of hydrolyzation of the samples. This paper also studies antiviral activity of SPS hydrolysates. The virus is HSV-1.
