Oxygen carrier is a kind of transition metal complexes which can absorb O2 reversibly. Transition metal-O2 complexes and its activation to O2 are a subject in the field of inorganic chemistry, biology, and catalysis chemistry, and so on. The study on oxygen carriers can disclose the mechanism of oxygen carriers, oxidases, peroxidases, hydroxidases in the body of living. It is an important way to study the mechanism of the enzymes reaction, such as Hb, by studying the reaction between transition metal complexes and molecule O2, and activation of melocule O2, in addition, most of catalytic and oxidized reaction is related to the active stage of O2.A study of cobalt Schiff base which can absorb O2 is an important aspect in the field of coordination chemistry, for these compounds have the same properties of oxygen carriers. Schiff base ligands with multi-functional groups can be prepared to stable transition metal complexes, by this way, they are used popularly in stabilizers, dyes, coordinative reaction, structure chemistry and agriculture.Dinuclearing macrocyclic complexes can be investigated as model compounds. Promising properties are expected for their application to mimic the active centre of metalloprotein, to bind and activate small molecules and to be used as bifunctional catalyst.Solid-state chemistry shows its great advantages in coordination chemistry, in this paper we synthesize cobalt Schiff base complexes as oxygen-carriers by solid state chemistry and study the oxygenation properties. The contents of this work contain six parts:1. Recent development of oxygenation of cobalt complexes was reviewed, such as the structure and properties of some typical oxygen carriers. The developments of macrocycles complexes were discussed.2. N.N'-bis(4-methoxyl-benzal)ethylenediamine cobalt was prepared by solid state reaction in room temperature, and were characterized by IR, XRD and elemental analysis, the oxygenation mechanism of absorbing oxygen was discussed.3. The complexes of N.N'-bis(4-methoxyl-benzal)ethylenediamine with 4 different cobalt salts were prepared by solid state reaction and their oxygenation was studied.4. Some novel compounds with Schiff base ligands were synthesized by solid-state reaction, and their properties of absorbing oxygen were compared.5. O-aminophenthiol cobalt and ethanolamine cobalt were prepared by solid state reaction in room temperature, and were characterized by IR, XRD and elemental analysis.6. A new dinucleating octoazadiphenol macrocyclic ligand, 3,6,9,12,20,23,26,29-octoaza-35,36-dihydroxy-16,33-dimethyl-tricyclo[[29,3,1,114,18]-hexatriacontane-1(34),14,16,18(36),31,32-hexaene(ODTH),was synthesized, the protonation constants of ODTH and the stability constants of its complexes with Cu(â…¡) were determined by potentiometrically measurement.
