Pure rare earth elements, lanthanum and cerium, are added to pure copper, then the inner mechanism and influence of rare earth addition on its absorptivity in copper casting microstructure specific resistance and mechanical properties are studied in this paper. The results show that the adding methods adding quantity, the sizes of adding particles heating temperature and heat preservation time have effects on the absorptivity, but the sizes of adding particles is the most important factor. With the adding quantity increasing, the distributions of rare earth are changed. Rare earth is not found on the matrix when the adding is less than 0.2wt.%; the distribution of rare earth on grains and grain interfaces are found when the adding is more than 0.2wt.%; With the adding increasing, rare earth is inclined to distribute on grain interfaces in the form of rare earth compound-based solution. The better properties of electrical conduction and higher strength are obtained when the adding quantities is 0.02wt.% and0.512wt%.
