A Study On Sustainable Development Of Human Settlement

Sustainable development of urban human settlement is ultimate target of modern cities construction and development. This article introduces the concept and the basic theory of sustainable development, and states the development of urban human settlement. We are used to studying the environment problem of human in the way of description, exposition, or just choosing one aspect of it to study, such as nature environment, landforms, transportation, population, and economics etc. These methods lack of synthesis and maneuverability. To maintain the sustainable development of human settlement, we must use a new study method. In this article, city is taken as a whole research object. By the method of qualitative and quantitative integration, the following problem was discussed: How to evaluate the human settlement's sustainability? What is the best way to study cities and the countermeasure to solve the contradiction?Human settlement is a multi-hiberarchy, exoteric, and complicated system. City is one of the levels, and more human settlement environmental problem happened in it. This article emphasizes on setting up the evaluating indicator system of sustainable development urban human settlement. By investigating Dalian urban human settlement, we use this system to evaluate Dalian urban human settlement sustainability. Combining Dalian actual condition and comparing with foreign cities, this article puts forward the measure for Dalian urban human settlement sustainability.
