With the progress of the industrial modernization, the issue of environment pollution is becoming more and more serious. The amount of the SO2 emission is increasing unceasingly, and now acid rain appears in large areas of China. The pollutant emission of SC? has become one of the problems to restrict the use of coal, now a main energy resource in China as well as in other developing countries. The pulverized coal-fired boilers in power plant, of which the SO2 emission is about 50% of the total SO2 emission of the country, are the main resources of the pollutant emission. The industrial boilers, about 500'000 sets in the country, are also the important resources of SO2 emission. So desulfurization is imperative under the situation, especially to the power plants with large amount of SO2 emission.The desulfurization technology by limestone injection with low operation expenditures and low investments can meet the country. But it cannot satisfy the requirement of environment protection because of its low rate of desulfurization. So, in order to find good sorbents to improve the rate of desulfurization and offer guidance for the study of the desulfurization technology by limestone injection, we carried out desulfurization experiments by compound sulfur fixing sorbent injection.At first, many desulfurization technologies, especially the desulfurization technology by limestone injection, are introduced and compared with each other in this paper. Then it points out that the desulfurization technology by compound sulfur fixing sorbent injection, with low investments, low operation expenditures, and simple equipment systems, is quite fit for the country at the present.In the laboratory, the desulfurization experiments of the compound sulfur fixing sorbent are carried out on the ZCS-I intelligent sulfur determination, the physical characteristic experiments of the compound sulfur fixing sorbent are carried out on PoreMaster-60 mercury porosimeter, and the limestone injection system is designed by calculation. Meanwhile, the point of limestone injection is chosen through mathematical model simulation.At last, the desulfurization capability of compound sulfur fixing sorbent, the limestone injection system, and temperature of limestone injection arevalidated by on-the-spot industrial desulfurization experiments on a 180T/H pulverized coal-fired boiler and a 35T/H industrial chain-gate boiler. The effect of limestone injection on the boilers operation is also analyzed in the experiments. It is proved that the desulfurization technology by utilizing the compound sulfur fixing sorbent, relatively simple and cheap, is an important way of SOi emission control, especially to some old power plants fed with middle or low sulfur coal, without prepared desulfurization place, and often near the cities.
