Lithography is the most widely used printing technics at present. The method of printing quality checking based on signal bar is limited. Herdelberg Co. and Roland Co. begin to improve printing quality by directly checking printing image. It is obvious that the new method of printing quality checking based on directly checking printing image is an international advanced technique. The most important problem in directly checking printing image is color separation of color printing image.In this paper, four-color printing image is analyzed and researched by using the method of digital image processing and pattern recognition. We propose a new color separation method of color printing dot image based on the method of digital image processing and pattern recognition. Combining FMC-2 equation, it can separate sixteen color members of four-color printing image. Then four-color (Y, M, C, BK) dots can be separated. From the results of separation, printing and dot area percent can be gained. It is significant for color rendering theory research of color printingresearch of ink printing rule and confirming modified coefficient of Neugebauer equation.
