YVO4 single crystal is one of excellent birefringent and ferroelectric crystals, which is with tetragonal structure. Its space group belongs to D 419h(I41/amd) and its crystal lattice parameters are a = b = 0.71192nm and c = 0.62898nm. It has a wide range of light transmission, good structure and physical properties. At present, it has become a very outstanding and excellent nonlinear optical crystal and laser crystal.YVO4 could be developed as new white LED lighting materials. Our study is divided into the following two parts. Firstly YVO4 single crystal is grown by the Czochralski method and the light transmission is studied. Secondly the rare earth ions will be doped in the YVO4 crystals and the spectral properties will be studied. This paper only refers to the first part, and the second part will be completed within the next few years.This paper has reported the following points:(1) The working principle of the medium frequency induction furnace is introduced. Some ordinary problems, such as how to handle and how to maintain, are summarized.(2) Several common methods of crystal growth are introduced. Based on our equipment, the growth of YVO4 crystal by Czochralski method is reported in detail.(3) After many experiments, a perfect YVO4 single crystal has been grown. The process of the growth and the various crystallization habits of the crystal are summarized.Finally, the growth technology for YVO4 single crystal by using the medium frequency induction furnace is attached in the appendix.
